About Us

We believe RAAM presents a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for melanoma research, provide education, promote sun safety, and increase advocacy for skin cancer prevention across the country. In fact, most RAAM teams will partner with nonprofit organizations in this years race. 2007 team partnerships include Team Type 1 racing for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Team 2Cure-HD racing for the Huntington's Disease Foundation, and Kalyra Women's Race Team racing for Girls, Inc. to name a few.

"My family and I have been battling skin cancer for many years. Between us we have had dozens of basal cell carcinomas removed, all of us have had multiple MOHS surgeries, my mother and sister both have had skin grafts on their nose, and my sister Cindy was recently rushed to the hospital during a routine checkup to remove melanoma from her back. Concern about melanoma strikes us all every time we are unprotected in the sun." - Ken Shuart

For us, this event provides a unique opportunity that combines our love for cycling with the chance to provide awareness, education, and funding to those who need it most. It is a race with results that will last long after crossing the finish line. Our hope is that we can establish ongoing community based campaigns aimed at skin cancer prevention.
